When I put my first piece of writing up on The Spiralling, I was so unbelievably nervous. I had no idea that clicking the ‘Publish’ button would open up so many amazing opportunities. I certainly never imagined buying thespiralling.com! I’ve been so lucky to have had so much support from friends, family and people I’ve never even met. It’s just an incredible feeling being able to help and support the talented people I write about.
Seeing as 2015 has been The Spiralling’s first full year, I thought that I would write an end of year review. I also thought it might be nice to share some of The Spiralling’s stats with you, seeing as it’s all of you who’ve made up the numbers.
So, The Spiralling has had 12, 209 views from 5,063 visitors from 76 countries! Wow! It’s so hard for me to comprehend this but I’m over the moon at how many people are reading the posts. Some of the search terms which have led people to the website have been pretty interesting, my favourite is ‘facebook sticker bunny over fire’ haha!
The Facebook page is another pretty amazing achievement, it’s currently on 990 likes. The competitions have been wonderful for helping to spread the word of The Spiralling, and all the prizes which have so kindly been donated by the people I write about, have been gratefully received by the winners. The latest competition has had a post reach of nearly 10,000 and just under 150 people have entered.
The Spiralling Network group on Facebook is also growing with 364 members. I created the group in order to allow people to share links to their work. As only I can share things on the page, this seemed like a good way to help people promote themselves. A few people have ended up getting some jobs out of it including Czee13 who made some awesome stickers for huxleymagic.co.uk.
Events wise, The Spiralling has really blossomed. It’s been so fun for me to put my event skills into practise, whilst also helping other people. The Spiralling had it’s first Swap Shop at The Chelsea in Easton back July. These events are a lot of fun and they have a wonderful lazy Sunday vibe. They’ve resulted in a lot of very happy people, including reuniting quite a few people with lost items of their own clothing! There’s been a fair amount of donating done as well with all the left over clothes being taken to good causes including The Salvation Army and One25. The next Swap Shop will be on the 24th of January and hopefully bi-monthly throughout the year.
The Spiralling Exhibition 001 was obviously the biggie of the year, attracting just over 500 people throughout the week it was on. I’m not going to lie, it was super stressful, but I will feel better prepared in the future having learnt a lot of lessons. It was also huge amounts of fun, great publicity for all the featured artists, and an overall success. Also just this month The Spiralling was mildly involved in helping to organise Ape Fest which was an outstanding showcase of musicians who are connect to Music Ape Studios. It was a fabulous event and another great thing to be a part of.
I’ve made the decision that this will be the last post for a month, as The Spiralling is going into hibernation. There are quite a lot of things I have to do to get ready for 2016, and in order to do that I need to take the pressure off a little. Don’t you worry though! The Spiralling will only be back bigger, and better, and stronger next year.
One of the main things I’m going to be pondering is how The Spiralling can start generating an income. The reason for this is that now it is taking up so much more of my time than it used to, and I would love to be able to invest into it, and start putting into action all the projects which are bubbling away in my brain. I’ve put together a little feedback form with some questions about The Spiralling. If you have the time to fill it in for me, that would be amazing! There is a section for further comments so please feel free to let me know your thoughts on The Spiralling, and any suggestions you may have.
I will aim to continue writing a post each Monday, but depending on how things go at the start of next year, things might not work out that way, but we’ll wait and see. I’ve already got some events planned in January with the first Spiralling Sounds! This event is a Jazz Dinner that will take place at Roll For The Soul on the 22nd of January.
I’m not going to even try and guess where The Spiralling will be at this time in 2016, but I do so hope that it continues to help those who work so hard every day to pursue their dreams, that it continues to provide readers with interesting articles, and that there will be many more exciting events to come. A big massive THANK YOU to everyone who has helped The Spiralling along the way.
Here’s wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and an ever-so Happy New Year!
